Medieval & LARP

Everyday clothes don't tell a story – Medieval and LARP gear has stories stitched into the hem. From the linen tunic to the wool cloak, from drinking horn to belt pouch and decorative weapon, you'll find here whatever the market, the convention, and the campfire demand. Elbenwald actually started with this very department – which is why we still take it seriously to this day. Whether it's your first garb or the fifth overhaul of your character: we outfit whatever holds up. As long as it holds.

Medieval & LARP – gear for worlds you can actually walk into

Most fandoms you just watch. This one you put on, buckle around your waist, and wear through the mud for three days straight. Medieval markets, conventions, LARP weekends, and reenactment live on the fact that their world doesn't stay on the screen – and garb is the ticket in. Anyone who's seen a tavern fall briefly silent because someone just walked through the door in full regalia knows: fabric can make an entrance. At Elbenwald you'll find garb and gear for exactly these moments – from tunic to cloak and belt, all the way to drinking horn and decorative weapon. And because Elbenwald itself comes from this scene, nobody gets dressed up here – they get outfitted.

What makes good garb?

Three things: material, workmanship, camp-readiness. Among materials, the classics have stuck around for good reason – linen breathes and dries fast, wool keeps you warm even when damp, and leather gets better with the years instead of worse. Which material your chosen piece uses is stated on the respective product page. Workmanship means seams that hold even when you're climbing over a bench or hefting a barrel – garb is working clothing, not a costume-party item. And camp-readiness is what separates the costume from the garb: a costume has to survive one evening, garb a weekend of rain, flying sparks, and zero ironing. Then there's the layering principle: good pieces can be layered and combined, so a basic outfit grows into a complete character's wardrobe over the years.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for my first garb?

Four pieces: a shirt or tunic, pants or a skirt, a belt, and sturdy shoes. That's enough to get you decently through any market and most conventions. Everything else – cloak, headwear, bags – grows with the character over time; hardly anyone buys the complete outfit all at once, and that's exactly what makes it fun.

What's the difference between LARP and reenactment?

In LARP (Live Action Role Playing) you play a character in a mostly freely invented world – fantasy elements explicitly welcome. Reenactment, on the other hand, aims to portray a historical era as verifiably as possible. For garb, that means: in LARP, what fits the role counts; in reenactment, what can be documented counts.

Are decorative weapons allowed in LARP battles?

No. Decorative weapons are display pieces for the wall, the cabinet, and the belt – they're a dead end at the weapons check. Battles require padded LARP weapons with a flexible core. What a piece can do and what it's intended for is stated on the respective product page.

How do I care for linen and wool garb?

Follow the care instructions on the product page – as a rule of thumb: wash natural fibers gently, air dry, and wrinkles are just part of linen's character. Minor traces from camp life tell a story; for everything else, there's the washing line after the convention.

Does garb also work for carnival, Halloween, or theme parties?

Absolutely. The difference from a throwaway costume: garb survives the night – and the twenty after that. Anyone who's worn a wool cloak to a party once ends up lending it out to friends afterward. For purely one-night appearances, it's also worth checking out the costumes.

Range overview

The base is laid by Shirts & Tunics, pants, dresses, and skirts – combinable in almost any direction, from herb-woman to mercenary. On top come Doublets & Tabards for silhouette and a second weather layer, as well as Coats & Cloaks for night watches and November markets. Shoes complete the garb down to the ground, headwear up top – and the belt carries what the Middle Ages owes you in pants pockets: belt pouches, bags, and the drinking horn for the mead question that comes up on every camp sooner or later. Decorative weapons take care of the blade-bearing entrance, and LARP gear takes care of the actual game.

What else goes with it?

If your camp leans more toward Middle-earth, The Lord of the Rings and the northern world of Vikings deliver the right inspiration along with replicas. And if you'd rather roll dice at the table than sweat it out in the field, Pen & Paper has your supplies – the garb for your next live adventure will already be hanging ready.
